BSL Round 21: Darussafaka defeat Besiktas in the closest game of the week

There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games.

The most exciting game of round 21 in the BSL took place in Istanbul. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Besiktas (16-5) to fifth ranked Darussafaka (14-7) 71-68 on Monday evening. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Besiktas. They outrebounded Besiktas 35-19 including a 28-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Will Clyburn (201-90, college: Iowa St.) stepped up and scored 12 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import guard Brad Wanamaker (193-89, college: Pittsburgh) chipped in 16 points. The best for the losing side was American guard DJ Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland) with 18 points. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Darussafaka maintains fifth place with 14-7 record. Besiktas at the other side keeps the third position with five games lost. Darussafaka are looking forward to face bottom-ranked TED Kolejliler (#16) in Ankara in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Besiktas will play at home against Galatasaray (#6) and is hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Istanbul: Fenerbahce (#1) and Galatasaray (#6). Galatasaray was defeated at home 75-79 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. International point guard Bobby Dixon (178-83, college: Troy, agency: BeoBasket) nailed 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side and Bogdan Bogdanovic accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. German center Tibor Pleiss (217-89) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds for Galatasaray in the defeat. Fenerbahce (19-2) have an impressive series of twelve victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place, which they share with Anadolu Efes. Galatasaray at the other side keeps the sixth position with nine games lost. Fenerbahce will play against Demir IBB (#14) in Buyukcekmece in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Galatasaray will play on the road against Besiktas (#3) in Istanbul and hopes to get back on the winning track.

An interesting game took place in Balikesir where higher ranked Gaziantep (10-11) was upset on the court of fifteenth ranked Balikesir (4-17) 78-71 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Gaziantep. The best player for the winners was Delroy James who scored 20 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Will Cherry who recorded 29 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Balikesir maintains fifteenth place with 4-17 record. Loser Gaziantep dropped to the eighth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Tofas. Balikesir will meet higher ranked Trabzonspor (#12) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gaziantep will play against Tofas (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
An interesting game took place in Bursa where 4th placed Banvit (15-6) was upset on the court of ninth ranked Tofas (10-11) 88-83. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Banvit. It was a good game for Sammy Mejia who led his team to a victory with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Tofas' coach Orhun Ene allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Tofas moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Gaziantep. Banvit at the other side keeps the fourth position with six games lost. Tofas' next round opponent will be Gaziantep (#8) on the road. Banvit will play against the league's second-placed Anadolu Efes (#2) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
13th ranked Demir IBB (6-15) was outscored at home by second ranked Anadolu Efes (19-2) with the biggest margin this round 79-52 on Monday night. Bryant Dunston stepped up and scored 14 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Anadolu Efes' coach Velimir Perasovic felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Anadolu Efes. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Fenerbahce. Demir IBB lost their eighth game in a row. They keep the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Anadolu Efes will face Banvit (#4) in Balikesir in the next round. Demir IBB will play on the road against the league's leader Fenerbahce (#1) in Istanbul and hope to win that game.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 21: Trabzonspor lost to Istanbul BBSK on the opponent's court 78-96. Yesilgiresun managed to outperform Usak in a home game 109-100. Bottom-ranked TED Kolejliler recorded a loss to Pinar Karsiyaka on the road 84-80.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 30 points by Ricky Ledo of Yesilgiresun.
