Galatasaray brings back coach Kunter

Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul has reunited with its former coach Erman Kunter, the club announced Monday. Kunter, 51, coached Le Mans Sarthe Basket in each of the last three seasons, but left the club in February. He returns to Galatasaray, a team he already coached in the 2002-03 season. Kunter started his coaching career with Darussafaka Istanbul back in 1994 and has also worked for Besiktas of his native Turkey and Cholet Basket and ASVEL Villeurbanne of France. Kunter also coached the Turkish national team from 1997 to 2000 and the Iraqi national team this season. Kunter led Cholet to a French League title in 2010 and lifted the Semaine des As trophy in 2008. He also won the French Cup crown with Le Mans in 2016. Kunter also had a long career as a player, from 1975 to 1992, and played for the Turkish national team, with which he averaged 17 points in 213 games. He once scored 153 points in a game between his team, Fenerbahce Istanbul, and Hilalspor back in 1988. Kunter replaces Ergin Ataman, who helped Galatasaray win the Turkish League title in 2013 and the 7DAYS EuroCup trophy in 2016.
