BSL round 6 most important game was a victory of Besiktas over 7th ranked Sakarya BSB 75-69 on Saturday night. Strangely Sakarya BSB outrebounded Besiktas 39-24 including 26 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American-Armenian point guard Ryan Boatright (183-92, college: Connecticut) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. American swingman Jon Diebler (198-88, college: Ohio St., agency: BeoBasket) contributed with 23 points for the winners. International forward Metecan Birsen (208-95) replied with 9 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists for Sakarya BSB. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Besiktas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Fenerbahce. Newly promoted Sakarya BSB dropped to the sixth position with three games lost. They share it with 4 other teams. Besiktas' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Istanbul Istanbul BBSK.
BSL top team - Tofas (6-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Banvit (3-3) in Balikesir 70-64. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Banvit. American power forward Raymar Morgan (203-88, college: Michigan St.) scored 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Sammy Mejia chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Polish power forward Damian Kulig (205-87, agency: BeoBasket) with 16 points. Banvit's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Undefeated Tofas have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 6-0 record. Banvit at the other side dropped to the sixth place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Tofas will play against league's second-placed Anadolu Efes in Istanbul in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Banvit will play on the road against Usak Sportlif (#16) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
Worth to mention about the upset in a game between Fenerbahce (4-2) and Darussafaka (3-3), which took place in Istanbul. Higher ranked Fenerbahce lost to tenth ranked Darussafaka in a road game 78-84 on Sunday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Fenerbahce. Scottie Wilbekin notched 30 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) to lead the effort. Even 22 points (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) by Brad Wanamaker did not help to save the game for Fenerbahce. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Darussafaka moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Defending champion Fenerbahce keeps the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Besiktas. Darussafaka will meet Sakarya BSB (#9) on the road in the next round. Fenerbahce will play against Eskisehir Basket (#3) in Edirne and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between tenth ranked Galatasaray (3-3) and 11th ranked Demir IBB (2-4) in Istanbul ended with biggest points difference. Galatasaray outscored guests from Buyukcekmece 98-71. The best player for the winners was Scotty Hopson who scored 17 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Galatasaray moved-up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Demir IBB at the other side keeps the eleventh position with four games lost. Galatasaray's next round opponent will be Trabzonspor (#12) on the road where they are favorite. Demir IBB will play against Pinar Karsiyaka and hope to win that game.
There were no big surprises in other games of round 6: Eskisehir Basket beat Pinar Karsiyaka on the road 74-70. Anadolu Efes won against Yesilgiresun on its own court 97-93. Usak unfortunately lost to Istanbul BBSK in a road game 73-77. Gaziantep recorded a loss to Trabzonspor at home 84-95.
