Galatasaray, Mahmuti agree until 2019

Just a few days after releasing Erman Kunter, on Friday Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul announced Oktay Mahmuti as the new coach for the team until the end of the 2018-19 season. Mahmuti, 49, will therefore be in his second stint with Galatasaray, where he already coached between 2010 and 2012. Mahmuti has had a successful career as a coach in Turkey and other countries. His accolades include four Turkish League titles from 2002 to 2005 with Efes, four Turkish Cup titles (2001, 2002, 2006 and 2007) and two Turkish President Cups (2006 and 2011). He was also named EuroCup Coach of the Year for the 2008-09 season with Benetton Treviso of Italy and became the first coach to earn that honor. Mahmuti spent most of his career with Efes, but also coached Darussafaka in Turkey, apart from Galatasaray, where he will now return to the EuroCup Top 16.
