There will be only one (last) round of the Regular Season in BSL. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.
The most important game in the last round took place in Istanbul between second ranked Tofas (17-5) and fourth ranked Anadolu Efes (15-7) on Monday night. Tofas was defeated by Anadolu Efes in a tough game on the road 79-87. Strangely Tofas outrebounded Anadolu Efes 32-0 including a 26- advantage in defensive rebounds. Australian power forward Brock Motum (208-90, college: Washington St.) scored 30 points (on 12-of-14 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and American-Armenian center Bryant Dunston (203-86) chipped in 11 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side swingman Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul) responded with 19 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. Anadolu Efes moved-up to third place, which they share with Besiktas. Tofas at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Anadolu Efes is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Usak Sportlif (#16) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Tofas will play against Gaziantep (#15) and is hoping to win this game.
BSL top team - Fenerbahce (19-3) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat eighth ranked Eskisehir Basket (10-12) in Istanbul 79-69. International Melih Mahmutoglu (193-90) notched 16 points to lead the effort and Ahmet Duverioglu supported him with 10 points and 7 rebounds. Fenerbahce's coach Zeljko Obradovic used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 27 points and 5 rebounds (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) by Ukrainian center Viacheslav Kravtsov (212-87, agency: BeoBasket) did not help to save the game for Eskisehir Basket. Fenerbahce have an impressive six-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 19-3 record. Eskisehir Basket lost ninth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Galatasaray. Fenerbahce will play against Demir IBB (#13) in Buyukcekmece in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Eskisehir Basket will play at home against Darussafaka (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
A very close game took place in Gaziantep between Gaziantep and Yesilgiresun Bld. Fifteenth ranked Gaziantep (6-16) got a very close home victory over 13th ranked Yesilgiresun Bld (7-15). Gaziantep managed to escape with a 1-point win 79-78 on Sunday evening. Americans were the main players on the court. Sean Armand fired 21 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Kenny Boynton produced 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Gaziantep maintains fifteenth position with 6-16 record. Loser Yesilgiresun Bld keeps the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. They share the position with Demir IBB. Gaziantep will meet league's second-placed Tofas in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Yesilgiresun Bld will play against Galatasaray (#9) and hope to secure a win.
Sixth ranked Darussafaka (14-8) beat at home 7th ranked Sakarya BSB (13-9) by 15 points 76-61, which is the biggest margin this round. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Sakarya BSB. Worth to mention a great performance of Scottie Wilbekin who helped to win the game recording 11 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Darussafaka moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Banvit BK. Newly promoted Sakarya BSB keeps the seventh position with nine games lost. Darussafaka's next round opponent will be Eskisehir Basket (#8) in Edirne. Sakarya BSB will play at home against Istanbul BBSK and hope to win that game.
Another interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Istanbul: Besiktas (#3) and Istanbul BBSK (#9). Istanbul BBSK was defeated at home 56-69 and even the fact of playing on their own court did not help. Josh Adams scored 13 points and 6 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Besiktas maintains third position with 15-7 record having four points less than leader Fenerbahce, which they share with Anadolu Efes. Loser Istanbul BBSK dropped to the tenth place with 13 games lost. Besiktas will face Banvit (#5) in Balikesir in the next round. Istanbul BBSK will play on the road against Sakarya BSB (#7) and hope to win that game.
There were no shocking results in the other games in round 22: Trabzonspor lost to Galatasaray on the opponent's court 78-84. Pinar Karsiyaka managed to outperform Demir IBB in a home game 103-98. Bottom-ranked Usak recorded a loss to Banvit BK on the road 71-58.
